Ariana DeBose to Host the 2023 Tony Awards for Second Time
The Broadway League and The American Theater Wing have confirmed that Ariana DeBose will be hosting the 2023 Tony Awards, which will be aired on CBS on June 11.
This is the second time that the triple-threat actress will host the prestigious award show. DeBose is known for her celebrated career in theater, with a Tony nomination in 2018 for her role as Disco Donna in “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.”
She has also performed in several other Broadway and off-Broadway plays such as “A Bronx Tale,” “Pippin” and “Motown the Musical.” Additionally, she appeared in the Tony-winning musical “Hamilton” alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda and the TV movie version of the play that won an Emmy in 2021.
DeBose made history as the first openly queer woman of color to win the supporting actress category in the Oscars, BAFTAs and Golden Globes for her performance as Anita in the Steven Spielberg-directed adaptation of “West Side Story.”
The Tony Awards, which honor the distinguished achievements of theater professionals on Broadway, will also be livestreamed on Paramount+.
