During a recent episode of her Workin’ On Motherhood podcast, Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor spoke candidly about her struggles with sex and pregnancy. Joined by guest Trisha Paytas, Trainor opened up about her experiences with husband Daryl Sabara, admitting that sex has become increasingly difficult and painful for her since becoming pregnant with their second child.
As the conversation turned to the topic of sex before, during, and after pregnancy, Trainor explained that she couldn’t “have sex at all” during her first pregnancy. She cited the size difference between herself and Sabara as one of the main reasons, saying, “My husband’s a big boy. My p—y’s broken though, I have p—y anxiety.”
When Paytas asked if Sabara was “big,” Trainor replied, “To the point where I’m like, ‘Is it all in?’ He’s like, ‘Just the tip.’ And I’m like, ‘I can’t do anymore!’ How do I fix that? Should I stretch?”
Trainor went on to reveal that she suffers from vaginismus, a condition in which the muscles of the vagina tense up uncontrollably during penetrative sex, causing pain or discomfort. She said that she initially thought that pain during sex was normal for all women, and only later realized that she was experiencing something abnormal.
“I thought every woman around was always in pain during and after sex,” Trainor explained. “I was like, ‘Doc, are you telling me I could have sex and not feel a single bit of pain?’ Like, stingy burning? When I was making this baby, I had to ice myself after. We’re not crazy, I’m a starfish, ‘Get it done.’ And then I’m icing myself and saying, ‘There’s gotta be another way.'”
Trainor also said that sex with Sabara can be “painful” and that she wishes she could “make Daryl smaller with a doctor.” She added that she hates how big he is, and that the aftermath of sex often leaves her unable to walk or go about her day normally.
Despite these challenges, Trainor remains optimistic and determined to figure out how to make sex work for her and Sabara. She said that she has tried “every angle” possible, but that “each one is worse than the other.” When Paytas suggested “sitting on top of” Sabara, Trainor said that would be a “nightmare.”
“He’s like, ‘Let’s try.’ I’m like ‘Please, no, for so many reasons.’ I’m like, ‘Don’t look at me. I don’t like this. This hurts way worse,'” Trainor recalled.
In the end, Trainor expressed her commitment to becoming a “star at sex,” even if it means continuing to struggle through the pain and discomfort. She and Sabara tied the knot in 2018 and welcomed son Riley in 2021. The couple is currently expecting their second child, another baby boy.
