Celine Dion has canceled all of her scheduled tour dates through April 2024 due to her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare and incurable neurological disease.
The 55-year-old singer announced the news on Twitter Friday, saying that she is “unable to successfully prepare for and perform the remainder of the tour.”
“As the world has emerged from the pandemic, Celine has continued to be treated for a diagnosed medical condition that prevents her from performing,” the statement said. “Celine is working hard on her recovery.”
The statement added that all tickets will be refunded.
Dion also shared a message on Twitter, saying that she is “heartbroken” to cancel the tour, but that she is “not giving up.”
“I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again… and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything until I’m really ready to be back on stage… I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!” she wrote.
Dion was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in December 2022. The disease causes muscle spasms and stiffness, and can make it difficult to walk, talk, and breathe. There is no cure for Stiff Person Syndrome, but there are treatments that can help manage the symptoms.
Dion has been a major force in the music industry for over 30 years. She has sold over 200 million records worldwide and won five Grammy Awards. She is also one of the most successful touring artists of all time.
The Courage World Tour was scheduled to begin in September 2022 and run through April 2023. The tour was to support Dion’s 2019 album, Courage.
Dion has not yet announced a new start date for the tour.
