Gabriel Iglesias’ private jet made an emergency landing after it skidded off the runway in North Carolina on Friday. The comedian and his team were headed for a show at Harrah’s Cherokee Resort Event Center when the incident happened.
Iglesias shared a video on Instagram of the jet sitting on the ground in a field. He wrote in the caption that everyone on board was okay, but shaken up. He said he was grateful to be alive and that he would be flying again tomorrow, just not on the same jet.
TMZ reported that the plane’s reverse thrusters failed when it touched down, causing it to continue down the runway at high speeds. The jet eventually came to a halt in a field about 600 feet from the end of the runway.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that local emergency officials responded to the scene just before 1 p.m. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
Iglesias told TMZ that the turbulence before landing was so bad that he hit his head on the ceiling of the plane. He said he was relieved that the pilots were able to land the plane safely.
In a later Instagram post, Iglesias thanked the pilots for their quick thinking and said that he was “grateful to live to see another day.” He also said that he would be flying again tomorrow, but on a different jet.
