Pixar's 'Elemental' Expands at South Korean Box Office, Bests 'Indiana Jones'

Pixar’s latest animated film, “Elemental,” expanded its lead at the South Korean box office in its third weekend of release, easily besting new release “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”

“Elemental” earned $5.27 million between Friday and Sunday, according to data from Kobis, the box office tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). This represents a 38% increase on its previous weekend performance and is the film’s best showing so far. It also increased its market share to 39%, its strongest position yet, despite only adding a handful of additional screens. After 19 days on release, “Elemental” has amassed $16.9 million from 2.25 million spectators.

Meanwhile, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” had a $2.86 million weekend session. Over its full five-day opening period, the film earned $3.98 million. These numbers are slightly disappointing, but they are in line with the film’s performance in other international markets. In North America, “Indiana Jones” earned $60 million, and it has taken in a further $70 million from other territories.

In third place at the South Korean box office is “The Roundup: No Way Out,” which has now become the first film of 2023 to achieve 10 million ticket sales. The film’s cumulative total now stands at $76.3 million, earned from 10.2 million spectators.

The fourth-place film is “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” which has accumulated $4.87 million after 12 days in Korean cinemas.

Rounding out the top five are “The Childe” (fifth place), “2022 Youngtak Concert: The Movie” (sixth place), “My Love” (seventh place), “Detective Conan: The Story of Ai Haibara Balack Iron Mystery Train” (eighth place), “The Flash” (ninth place), and “Asteroid City” (tenth place).
