Tom Cruise Plans to Watch Oppenheimer and Barbie on Their Opening Weekend

Tom Cruise is a big proponent of watching movies in theaters, and he’s planning to see two major releases on the same weekend: “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie.”

“I want to see both Barbie and Oppenheimer,” Cruise said in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald. “I’ll see them opening weekend. Friday I’ll see Oppenheimer first and then Barbie on Saturday.”

Both films are set to hit theaters on July 21, and they’re both expected to be big box office draws. “Oppenheimer” is a historical drama about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the scientist who led the Manhattan Project to develop the atomic bomb. “Barbie” is a live-action film based on the popular Mattel doll.

Cruise has said that he grew up watching movies in theaters, and he believes that the experience is still the best way to see a film. “I grew up seeing movies on the big screen,” he said. “That’s how I make them, and I like that experience; it’s immersive, and to have that as a community and an industry, it’s important.”

Cruise is also promoting his own film, “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One,” which opens in theaters on July 12, a week before “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie.” The actor has been teasing the film on social media, and he recently posted a photo of his tickets to the two other movies.

“This summer is full of amazing movies to see in theaters,” Cruise tweeted. “Congratulations, Harrison Ford, on 40 years of Indy and one of the most iconic characters in history. I love a double feature, and it doesn’t get more explosive (or more pink) than one with Oppenheimer and Barbie.”

Cruise is known for his commitment to making sure that his films are seen on the big screen, and he’s hoping that his fans will follow his lead and see “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” in theaters.
