Jamie Lynn Spears has opened up about her decision to step away from the limelight after getting pregnant at 15.
In an interview with Hannah Brown on the “Better Tomorrow” podcast, Spears said that she made the decision for herself and her family, despite the backlash she received from the public.
“That doesn’t make sense for everyone else, but it made sense for me and the whole world came down and told me I was the worst human alive for doing so,” she said.
Spears said that she wanted to focus on her pregnancy and raise her daughter, Maddie, in a normal environment. She moved to the “middle of nowhere” in Mississippi and got rid of her cell phone.
“I was like, ‘No one call me,’ [and] I put myself on a budget,” she said. “I had a budget for, like, 10 years that I lived very strictly by and I just wanted to be normal and I just really wanted to be away.”
Spears said that she enjoyed going to the store without worrying that people would recognize her.
“Interacting with people like that on a daily basis makes you have a much different outlook whenever a newspaper writes a bad headline about you that’s not true,” she said. “Like, you know what, that doesn’t matter. These are the people that matter.”
Spears has since made a comeback to Hollywood, starring in the Netflix series “Sweet Magnolias.” She is also set to appear in the upcoming film “Zoey 102.”
“I’m just trying to find my way back to myself,” she said. “I’m trying to find my way back to what makes me happy.”
