Meghan Markle’s hit legal drama “Suits” has broken a streaming record nearly four years after the series ended.
The USA Network show, which ran from 2011 to 2019, racked up 3.14 billion minutes of streaming time during the week of June 26 to July 2 after its debut on Netflix last month, according to Nielsen.
The previous record-holder was “Manifest,” which tallied up 2.49 billion minutes of watch time.
The number of minutes watched for “Suits” may be even higher, as Nielsen only takes into account television viewing in the United States, excluding streaming on phones and tablets.
Markle, 41, starred as paralegal Rachel Zane in the show alongside Patrick J. Adams and Gabriel Macht. She left the series after Season 7 following her engagement to Prince Harry in 2017.
The couple currently reside in Montecito, California, after stepping down from their royal duties.
Although Markle previously left acting behind, sources told Page Six in May that she inked a deal with Hollywood agent Ari Emanuel’s talent agency, WME, to become a “power player” in the industry.
“Even though she is, of course, an actress, this isn’t about movies or shows for Meghan to star in, it is about creating projects for her to produce – she wants to run the show,” an insider said.
The record-breaking streaming numbers for “Suits” suggest that there is still a strong appetite for the show, even after it has been off the air for several years. This is likely due in part to Markle’s continued popularity, as well as the show’s well-written characters and engaging storylines.
It will be interesting to see what Markle does next in her career. With her new deal with WME, she is well-positioned to become a major player in the entertainment industry. It would not be surprising to see her produce her own show or film in the near future.
