Sarah Silverman Slams SAG-AFTRA's Interim Agreements for Movies with Stars During Strike

Actor-comedian Sarah Silverman is expressing her frustration with the large number of projects that have been granted interim agreements by SAG-AFTRA to film during the actors strike.

In a video posted on Instagram, Silverman said that she is “f*cking pissed off” because she believes that these interim agreements are “exponentially prolonging” the strike. She also criticized the actors who are signing on to these projects, saying that they are “not standing with their union.”

SAG-AFTRA has defended the interim agreements, saying that they are necessary to allow “independent” movies to be made. However, Silverman and others argue that these movies are not truly independent, as they will likely be distributed by streaming services that are also members of the AMPTP, the trade association that represents the major Hollywood studios.

The large number of interim agreements has raised eyebrows, and it is unclear how long the strike will continue. Silverman has called on SAG-AFTRA to “stop making these deals” and to “stand with the people who are making real-deal sacrifices.”

Here are some of the high-profile projects that have received interim agreement so far:

  • Apple TV+’s series Tehran
  • Spy drama series The Gray House, produced by Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman
  • New Line pickup The Watchers from Ishana Night Shyamalan
  • Glenn Close’s The Summer Book
  • Viola Davis’ MRC action thriller G20, which will be distributed by Amazon
  • A24 titles Mother Mary and Dreams of a Unicorne

It remains to be seen how the strike will be resolved, but Silverman’s comments highlight the growing frustration among some members of SAG-AFTRA.
