Lil Tay’s former manager Harry Tsang is skeptical of the young rapper’s claims that her social media was hacked after a post on her verified Instagram account claimed she and her brother had died.
Tsang told The Post on Thursday that he believes Tay is still alive and that the death announcement was fake. He said he has not attempted to reach out to Tay since the hoax and does not intend to.
Tay herself denied the death rumors in a statement to TMZ on Thursday, saying that her Instagram account had been compromised by a third party. She said that she and her brother are “safe and alive” but that she is “completely heartbroken” by the incident.
The latest development in Tay’s story comes just 24 hours after the Instagram post announcing her death. The post, which was not signed by a specific person, said that Tay and her brother had died unexpectedly and that their deaths were still under investigation.
Tay’s father, Chris Hope, refused to confirm or deny her death when contacted by The Post. He said that he was not able to give any comment at the time.
Police departments in Vancouver, Canada and Los Angeles, where Tay’s dad and mom lived respectively, could not confirm their deaths either.
It is unclear who is responsible for the death hoax or why it was created. However, Tsang’s skepticism and Tay’s denial suggest that the announcement may not be accurate.
