“Real Housewives of Orange County” star Heather Dubrow is speaking out against the “Ozempic shaming” that celebrities face for taking the diabetes medication, which has also become a popular weight loss drug.
Dubrow told Us Weekly that she is “over” people asking her if she is on Ozempic and that she thinks it is “private medical information” that is no one else’s business. She compared the stigma surrounding Ozempic to the stigma that once surrounded Botox, which is now a widely accepted cosmetic treatment.
Dubrow also pointed out that Ozempic and other injectable semiglutide drugs “seem to be working wonders” for diabetics and that they may be a healthier option for weight loss than other methods, such as Dexatrim, cigarettes, and Diet Coke.
Dubrow’s husband, Terry Dubrow, a plastic surgeon, went even further, saying that Ozempic and similar drugs are “better” than Botox and that they are “treating the number one risk factor for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.”
The use of Ozempic and other semiglutide drugs for weight loss has stirred controversy, as shortages of the drugs have made them harder to obtain for diabetics who need them to manage their conditions. In addition, the relatively new drugs have sparked concern among doctors over their potential long and short-term side effects.
Despite the controversy, Heather Dubrow believes that Ozempic and similar drugs will eventually become as accepted as Botox. She said, “I feel like these miracle weight loss drugs are gonna end up being the same thing.”
