Sam Asghari will not receive a $10 million payout from Britney Spears in their divorce due to a loophole in their prenuptial agreement, according to a report from Us Weekly.
The prenup reportedly stipulates that Asghari would receive $1 million for every two years of marriage, up to a maximum of $10 million after 15 years. However, the couple was only married for 14 months, so Asghari will not receive the full $10 million.
In addition, Asghari also waived his rights to Spears’ extensive music catalog and was not included on the deed to their home. The home is instead owned by an LLC.
A representative for Asghari told The Messenger that he has no plans to challenge the terms of the prenup. “There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos,” the representative said. “However, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her.”
The couple announced their split on Wednesday, August 16. Asghari filed for divorce the following day. In a statement on Instagram, Asghari said that he and Spears “will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always.”
Spears has yet to comment on the divorce.
The prenuptial agreement was reportedly signed in 2020, shortly before the couple got married. It is unclear why the couple decided to include a loophole that would prevent Asghari from receiving the full $10 million payout if they divorced after just over a year of marriage.
However, it is possible that the couple simply wanted to protect Spears’ assets in the event of a divorce. Spears is a very wealthy woman, and her music catalog is worth hundreds of millions of dollars. By waiving his rights to her music catalog, Asghari was essentially agreeing to walk away with nothing if they divorced.
The prenuptial agreement is a private document, so it is not possible to know for sure why the couple included the loophole. However, it is clear that the agreement will have a significant impact on Asghari’s financial future. He will not receive the $10 million payout that he was expecting, and he will also not be able to claim any ownership of Spears’ music catalog.
