Country singer Maren Morris has hinted at a new song that may be about her fellow country star Jason Aldean.
Morris shared a cryptic video on Instagram on September 7, 2023, that showed a small billboard in a local town that read “Welcome To Our Perfect Small Town From Sundown To Sunset.” The caption of the post read, “I’m done filling a cup with a hole in the bottom.”
Some fans interpreted the post as a reference to Aldean’s controversial song “Try That in a Small Town,” which was released earlier this year. The song was criticized for its lyrics, which some people felt were racist and promoted violence.
Aldean has not responded to Morris’ post, but her friend and fellow country singer Brandi Carlile commented, “Oh it is ON,” with a fire emoji.
This is not the first time that Morris and Aldean have been at odds. In 2022, Morris called out Aldean’s wife Brittany for making transphobic comments.
It remains to be seen whether Morris’ new song will be explicitly about Aldean, but the timing of her post and the cryptic nature of the lyrics suggest that it may be.
In addition to the video, Morris also shared a picture of the outfit she wore to the 2016 CMA Awards, where she won New Artist of the Year and Aldean received zero nominations. This could also be seen as a subtle dig at Aldean.
